I know this post is written out of order.  The previous post requires this recipe, and it’s better late than never, right?  So, here goes…

My kids love flavored rice.  And, admittedly, so do I.  The only problem, though, is that most of the stuff you get from a box has all sorts of not-so-good things included, such as msg and corn syrup!  The good news is that it is really easy to make your own flavored rice from scratch, without a lot of extra work.  And, the taste is so much better than from a box, you’ll never go back.

Flavored Rice
1 cup uncooked rice
2 cups broth
Seasonings – This can be pretty much anything.  I usually use some garlic powder and Italian seasonings, but you could also add in some Parmesan or chili powder, to make it interesting.
Salt & Pepper to taste

Heat the broth to boiling.  Stir in rice and reduce heat to low or medium-low.  Mix in seasonings, cover and cook for about 20 minutes.  One way of making sure that you don’t burn the rice is to take the rice off of the heat after about 10 minutes and keep covered another 10-15 minutes.  The retained heat cooks the rice without burning the bottom.
